List of Independent Media

This is a list of more than 300 independent, community-based, member- and audience-supported, nonprofit, not-for-profit, cooperative, and social justice oriented news publications, primarily based in the United States and Canada. There are four sections: U.S. and World News, Canada, Local and State News, and Commentary. You may search a section for a keyword, or click on column headers to sort by that column’s data. Inclusion in the list is based on the trust factors of Ownership, Funding, and Viewpoint. We have provided information about the trust factors for each organization, so you can decide for yourself whether to trust the source. This list is current as of 2020, and we are still adding to it. Please help us keep it up to date by informing us of sources we have missed or outlets that are no longer publishing.
